The Right Way To Clean A Dildo
As tempting as it is to chuck your dildo into a corner once you’ve finished, it’s important to give your sex toys a proper clean. Each material of sex toy varies in cleaning directions, but the below guidelines are generally followed.
Wash with regular hand soap or dish soap. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. For textured toys, use a brush to scrub into the grooves. The toys can then air dry and go back into storage.
When switching a toy from anal to vaginal use or between partners, toys should be sterilized. Silicone, ABS plastic, wood, ceramic, and metal can be dipped in 10% bleach and rinsed. Glass, metal, and silicone can be boiled for 3-5 minutes or in the dishwasher on their own. Metal, ABS plastic, glass, wood and silicone can also be rubbed down with alcohol.

Sex toys should be cleaned after each use. Porous materials are very hard to fully disinfect, and we’d recommend using a condom over them.
There are also plenty of sex toy cleaners made out there! Three include Medamore, Sliquid, and Satisfyer Cleansing Foam.
After cleaning, sex toys should be stored in a safe and hygienic place. There are even companies that make UV storage containers to help disinfect toys. Silicone toys can go into plastic bags so they don’t collect dust in storage.
