The Best Thing Since Intercourse: Outercourse!
Outercourse is exactly as it sounds, but has so many more layers to it than you can imagine. Outercourse is an alternative to penis-in-vagine (PIV) sex, and is non-penetrative.
What Does Outercourse Include?
It can include handjobs, cunnilingus, nipple stimulation, and anything that stimulates outside of the body for pleasure. It has a couple of different definitions - some interpreting it as any sex that’s not PIV, and others defining it as no penetration at all.
Dry humping, kissing, mutual masturbation, scissoring, and masturbation also all fall under outercourse. Vibrators can also be used very strategically to take outercourse to the next level.
Why Do Outercourse?
It’s a top alternative to complete abstinence. But even if you’re not abstinent, it can go alongside PIV sex but is a safer alternative with lower STI or pregnancy risk. Of course, the risk is lower but doesn’t mean completely gone.
Outercourse takes the pressure off of penetrative sex and can be a less intimidating and even more intimate way to engage with a partner. It can lead to figuring out what other actions can lead to pleasure, and where else feels good to the touch. PIV can be a stressor and outercourse takes off some of that fear and anxiety.
Other practical reasons to do outercourse?
You’re on your period and don’t want to make a mess
An injury or infection is preventing safe PIV sex
For transgenders who want to avoid genital contact
To get clit stimulation
To enjoy sex with vaginismus
Outercourse isn’t for everybody, but we encourage y’all to give it a shot! You don’t need to give up intercourse to try out outercourse, and it could open new doors for you sexually.
